The woman at work was ruthless.  I caved.

This bathing stop was not marked on the hiking map eventhough it's obvious it has been here since before maps were invented.

On the eve of the inauguration, I'd just like to remind us all about what brought us to this momentous day ...

Advise and Consent 1959
Advise and Consent 1959
This is a story set in the late 1950's of the U.S. Senate going about its business of confirming a Secretary of State nominee.  Just over 100 pages into it, we are getting to the heart of the matter, but you can't help but think  the characters and story lines are from today... well, maybe not with Hillary exactly, given the praise she was given during her hearings this week as that certianly is not the case against this Bob Leffingwell.  All the back story, allegiances, politicing, and glamour of the rich D.C. life comes through.

The best part is that the book itself is a 1959 hardcover edition and I think that the prior owner of this hard to find gem (a big shout-out to SAS for this gift!) was a smoker because of the faint smell of tobacco when I turn each page.  I begin to wonder if the book was read in a dark, leather cushioned den by a pack-a-day, scotch-neat drinking gentleman who was wearing a sweater vest that had hard candies in the pocket.  That is something that, at least for now, no electronic device can capture.
